Chameleon

Issue 274: Reading from other partition than I want boot from ??

Reported by Peter _sm, Jul 24, 2012

I trying to boot my ML and I have issue with ny graphic card....
however, when looking on the boot log (using Wait=Y) I see its
reading files from my LION partition.....

Example I have removed my org.chameleon.Boot.plist from mountain
Lion partition hd(1,3)
Anyway I see its reading my org.chameleon.Boot.plist from LION
hd(1,2)

But there are more files thats is accessed from partition 1,2 when
booting from partition 1,3

Booting to my LION partition I see this.....

Read HFS+ file:
[hd(1,3)/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist] 475 bytes.
Read HFS+ file:
[hd(1,2)/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist] 478 bytes.

Attached is bdmesg from LION

Regarding "org.chameleon.Boot.plist from LION hd(1,2)": If
I remember correctly, this would occur if boot1h is installed in the
boot sector of the Lion partition. If you want to boot without
Chameleon reading any org.chameleon.boot.plist file, you need to
remove the boot1h code from any partition other than the Mountain
Lion partition or rename the Extra folder on the other partitions.

Regarding the reading of the
"/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist" files:
These files indicate to Chameleon, which version of OS X the
partition contains and allows displaying the corresponding icons for
Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion.

org.chameleon.Boot.plist is loaded first from teh partition that the
boot file is found one, then it may be laoded from the drive you are
booting from.

SystemVersion.plist is loaded from all partition to determine the
system version.
